My reactions in chronological order:

1) “[Deep Space Nine] has enjoyed less acclaim and nostalgia than the original series or Star Trek: Next Generation and sits somewhere above the short-lived Enterprise series and just below Voyager on the Star Trek interest scale.”

WTF did I just read?! “Less acclaim”?! In what universe is the author living? *smashes all the things*

2) (Tentative) enthusiasm re: the documentary itself - It’s not what I dreamed of, but it’s better than nothing. And I’m interested in what direction the writers would take a hypothetical season 8, so yay!

3) Bottom line: go support the campaign if you’re interested in this and have some money to spare :)

my favorite thing i’ve learned in college is that way back in ancient china there was this poet/philosopher guy who wrote this whole pretentious poem about how enlightened he was that was like “the eight winds cannot move me” blahblahblah and he was really proud of it so he sent it to his friend who lived across the lake and then his friend sends it back and just writes “FART” (or the ancient Chinese equivalent) on it and he was SO MAD he travels across the lake to chew his friend out and when he gets there his friend says “wow. the eight winds cannot move you, but one fart sends you across the lake”

Okay so I know that a criticism of Forbeck’s writing in Halo: New Blood is that he uses way too many similes, and we end up with gems like these:

That stopped me like a pair of underwear made of ice.

Much as I hate to admit it, ONI’s plan worked like a bullet through butter.

I followed straight after her like a dog on a proximity leash.

But like,,, what if Buck actually just talks like that. all the time

And he just says weird old man things that Osiris has to constantly decipher because they only make small amounts of sense

“This tastes like shrimp fresh off the pavement” “man I sure feel like a squirrel in a furnace right now” “that missions was as hard as mountain lava”

“Locke I don’t know what he’s saying”

“No one does”

— I am like a slip of comet,

Scarce worth discovery, in some corner seen

Bridging the slender difference of two stars,

Come out of space, or suddenly engender’d

By heady elements, for no man knows:

But when she sights the sun she grows and sizes

And spins her skirts out, while her central star

Shakes its cocooning mists; and so she comes

To fields of light; millions of travelling rays

Pierce her; she hangs upon the flame-cased sun,

And sucks the light as full as Gideon’s fleece:

But then her tether calls her; she falls off,

And as she dwindles shreds her smock of gold

Amidst the sistering planets, till she comes

To single Saturn, last and solitary;

And then goes out into the cavernous dark.

So I go out: my little sweet is done:

I have drawn heat from this contagious sun:

To not ungentle death now forth I run.
