i never want context for this.
In 1953, LIFE ran a story about pet otters - LIVES OF GOOD OTTERS - so popular that it prompted quite a few ‘Letters to the Editors’ to publish more. This image was the bonus that ran in the Feb. 2, 1953 issue. (Wallace Kirkland—The LIFE Picture Collection/Getty Images) #WildLIFEWednesday #1950s #Otters

sorry to tack this on to your lovely gifset buuuuuut–
One of the things I solidly am convinced of about Whedon is that he consistently hires actors who understand/develop his characters better than he is capable of. This is why mediocre actors always equal mediocre characters in Whedon shows…because Whedon’s genius is collaborative.
Look at the subtle nuances of this exchange that could not actually have been scripted. Look at how Willow’s clarification of “the real kind” is affectionate but still corrective. Look at how Spike’s physical response is not dismissive, it’s just curiosity, like ‘is that a different thing? really?’ And then, the clincher: Willow’s honest, empathetic thanks and Spike’s I-don’t-wanna-like-you-weirdos-but-whoops-guess-I-sorta-do face all stuffed into the briefest of brief seconds.
Because in a script this would look condescending on Willow’s part and pure bad-boy attitude on Spike’s. But it can be so much more in the hands of a good actor.
my talent is coming off warm and inviting and open but still remaining a fairly closed off person
apparently modern medieval scholars have no solid idea why there’s so many old paintings of knights fighting snails. Like that wasn’t just one weird painting there’s hundreds of those.
the firste meyme

And my favorite one here

I’m not saying humanity defeated an invasion of snail aliens in the Middle Ages but hold on wait that’s EXACTLY what I’m saying
snail aliens, or snaliens,
probably it was just funny so people kept doing it. which is basically what a meme is
the explanation I’ve heard is that most of the monks who did these illustrations would have kept small gardens where they grew all their own food and this was their way of venting about snails ruining their gardens
ok thats even funnier
This is hands down one of my favourite posts on Tumblr.
“Fuckin snails, I’m gonna draw me some God damn knights killing the shit out of these shell slime fucks. Teach them to fucking ruin my herbs. Assholes.”
