Jane Zhang is a Chinese singer (with 15 top 1 hits on Chinese music charts) and this is her first English album to be released in the States! Her dream has always been to have an English album of her own. But, as you can imagine, no record company in China wanted to invest in a purely English album in the Chinese market. Unfazed, she went ahead to jointly create her own tiny record company, and see where she got right now!
This song, Dust my shoulders off, has been in the top 20 US Itunes hotlist for a few days now! The music video has just been released like 10 minutes ago? and I highly recommend everyone to watch this! It is very artsy and fresh.
Tyrian purple, a natural dye, was so expensive that its use was restricted to royalty. It was discovered about 1,500 BCE. The dye was obtained from two genera of one species of shellfish. It was estimated that 8,500 shellfish were required to produce one gram of dye, so only small amounts could be produced and the price was very high. Ultimately, a restrictive policy of the eastern emperors caused the art to be practised by only a few, and around the start of the 1100s CE, when Byzantium was suffering from attacks without and dissensions within, the secret of Tyrian purple was lost. Thankfully, the secret of Tyrian purple was rediscovered in England around the year 1683.
