the fact that the Russian language doesn’t have articles makes me go ??????????????? because in a native English speaker’s head it sounds like a hilarious shitpost type thing

so when you ask someone “Где водка?” it translates to “where is the vodka?”

but in my horrible backwards english brain if I don’t see any articles I assume they aren’t there, so yelling “ГДЕ ВОДКА” translates to “WHERE VODKA” like some kind of drunken maniac who you definitely should not give vodka to

leupagus

Speaking as a Russian-American who speaks the language and knows a fair share of Russian-Russians, even if Russians did have articles they would still slam open the door yelling “WHERE VODKA” at all times.

new genre concept: soft apocalypse

the world as we know it has ended and mother nature starts taking back what’s hers. there are no zombies or cannibals or murderous bandits. the most valued members of the community are those who know how to garden and farm, sew and weave, treat wounds, work wood or build with bricks, cook from scratch.

people bond together to begin rebuilding instead of killing each other. everyone teaches each other whatever they do know and works together to figure out the stuff none of them know. books become incredibly valued resources because they’re often the only way to learn critical information. if someone is elderly, disabled, or otherwise unable to work at the same level as most of the community, they’re taken care of by the others, not told any sort of “survival of the fittest” bs.

as the generations ware on, communities begin expanding into small cities. some of the settlements even find ways to repurpose solar or wind power on a small scale and have electricity in some of their buildings. storytellers wander the countryside telling tales of the old world in return for some hot stew or a place to rest for the night, and the mythos of the new world start to incorporate elements of the past. the only thing that remains constant is that humans survive, and they do it by working together.

Kichijoji Dake ga Sumitai machi desu ka?

skullvis

So I found a really awesome manga today???

image

It’s called “Kichijoji dake ga sumitai machi desu ka?” or, roughly, “The only town you want to live in is Kichijoji?” and is by Maki Hirochi

It’s about two sisters who work do real estate in Kichijoji, Tokyo

image

They’re both fat girls, but as far as I can tell so far, they aren’t fetishized or are the butt of a joke???

image
image

They’re both super cute, and drawn proportionally and realistically, seriously I can’t think of the last time I saw a manga with fat girls as the main characters/protagonists, or if I EVER have period.

AND THEY LOVE METAL/HARD ROCK?!?!?

image

LIKE WOW IM IN LOVE!??

Also the stories are all just really sweet, it’s basically just the sisters helping people who come to their real-estate agency find the perfect home, like, it’s really cute and sweet and good?

Also it has a live-action drama going on rn which is super exciting!

Basically, I don’t know if this story will get more popular or if the manga will get an English translation, but I was just super hyped about this and wanted to share ~ <3

Duuuuude!! Catfish grow to the amount of food there is which means the river these guys came from must be plentiful as fuck, or it’s eating the native species.
PSA: do NOT catch and release catfish. The fuckers will screw with the rivers ecosystem if they’re not native to the area.
These are the sort of size fish that WILL have a go at eating people as well, they will probs chock but yeah.
Catfish have little to no sight, since they’re bottom feeders they scout for food mostly using their feelers, and just swallow whatever they think can fit in their mouths.

I watch a lot of Jeremy Wades River Monsters when I’m bored. The shit he films is ridiculous and I love it.

Edit: Cat fish are also cannibals if there’s no other food source.

Like, there’s a reason catfish noodling is illegal in some places, and it’s mostly because a number of noodlers drown every year when the catfish they find is too big to be caught and they /fucking get drowned by catfish/. So yeah. Catfish, man.

There are many differences between this universe and the universe in the show. The most obvious of course being how vastly different lifeforms are in biology, but also in events that have taken place, and how those events played out. Different wars broke out, different wars prevented. Many people’s lives have played out entirely differently.

One of the smaller differences is in Benjamin Sisko’s favourite sport. Whilst Baseball fell out of fashion and play by 2042 (DS9 If Wishes Were Horses), Basketball is still played in the 24th century (shown in the 22nd century in ENT), which is no doubt because the way the game is played allows for a wide range of non-humanoid species to play it too.

In 2375, Captain Solok of the USS T’Kumbra challenges Captain Sisko to a game of basketball, and the Niners team is formed. Vulcans have a reputation for being especially good at basketball (if they choose to play), since their telekinesis can allow for extreme accuracy.

The Niners starters consists of Ben, Jake, Kira, Asha and Julian. Substitutions on the bench include Nog, Leeta, Rom, Quark, Kassidy, Miles and Keiko (not all necessarily as enthusiastic at the prospect of playing). Cheering is provided from the seats by Jadzia, Ezri (if the Trill could play, they would) and Worf (whose cheering is more roaring). Sneering at the whole affair is provided from the seats by Garak, whilst he provides morale support for the still-recovering Ziyal, who really wanted to be there.

Probably more goofy cartoons of this to come. XD

Thought of the day (while reading a “gender marketing” translation with painfully outdated views): I am really, really sick of us only talking about “gender” when women are involved.

A surprising number of important realizations could be made if we develop the habit of talking about gender dynamics even – perhaps especially – in the context of all-male or mostly-male groups.

How does it affect productivity, public image, collaboration, negotiating, client acquisition, etc. to have any group of people involved be entirely men? What effects does this drastic gender imbalance cause in its environment?

LET’S TALK ABOUT GENDER AND MEN, PEOPLE. Gender is not an exclusively female domain.

Me, interviewing the director of basically any film ever: “So let’s talk about the extreme gender imbalance in the casting of this film. What was the thinking behind that? Was there a particular statement you were trying to make, a satirical observation on the politics of society, perhaps? That kind of came out of left field, when we watched the film and all the parts but one were men. Can you tell us a little about the background of that?”

Director: “Um… I didn’t actually consciously think that much abou–”

Me, interrupting: “Come now, don’t be modest! That was a fascinating artistic decision! The drastic disparity between the number of men and the number of women in the film makes it clear to even the most casual viewer that gender is a central theme in this story. Can we delve into that a little bit further?”

Director: “…”

This would be a fun tack to take in regard to race, too.

“I noticed something very interesting about your film, which is that every single one of the leading roles is played by a white actor. Clearly there’s some conceptual message you want to communicate with this creative choice. Could you talk about that?”

Director: *sweats nervously*
