Day 1

@vulcankisseshuman

My Favourite episode is DS9′s Season 5 Episode 9 ‘The Ascent’.

“Odo arrests Quark, but while transporting him to trial in a runabout they crash land on a deserted planet and are forced to depend on each other to survive and call for help. Meanwhile, Nog returns to the station. Jake moves out of Ben’s quarters so he and Nog can be roommates, but Starfleet Academy has changed Nog and things don’t go as smoothly as they had hoped.”

I liked the subplot of this episode, but the reason it’s my favourite is the “road trip turned fighting for our lives because this planet is a FUPPING deathtrap and I’m stuck with you of ALL people” main plot.

The constant bickering with Odo and Quark had me in stitches for the majority of the episode.

Nice outfits, guys.

Pfftttttt

THEY HAD HAND SLAPPING FIGHTS

Then at the end, they are in ds9′s sick bay in nightie things:

image

Quark: You remember back there, when I told you I hated you, and you told me you hated me?

Odo: Vividly.

Quark: I just wanted you to know… I meant every word of it.

Odo: So did I.

And then they GIGGLE

That’s why my favourite episode is DS9′s Season 5 Episode 9 ‘The Ascent’.

When all you want to do is have one character ride a maglev train across Cardassia Prime….

And two hours later….

Found that there’s only one map of Prime, that doesn’t even include all the continents listed on Memory Beta

Constructed your own map (bc very obviously the current one is wrong) - underpinned by (very bad) geology

Estimated times of travel between various cities, using rough estimations of distance, train speed, and time zone set up

Made up an imaginary train schedule

And written nothing…

….at least I now know how this part of the story will work time wise?

There are some weird advertising characters out there. This is one of them: Darigold milk during the mid-1980s was putting Milkwalker, a pint of milk with arms and legs (and rather scary ones at that) and huge soul-gobbling eyes, on its boxes with tips on how to live your life safely. Those hinge knees, man.

I’ve found no origin story, no other record of his being a thing that answers any questions about what Darigold was thinking and how long he was (to them and the schoolchildren who saw him daily) a thing.

Including kids in food preparation from a young age is a gift in itself. It connects them to their food and their family, it instills responsibility and confidence, and passes along a lifelong skill. We started with a lot of baking (cookies, pies, and breads), but wanted to involve them in everyday dinners and meals that included our back yard veggies and strawberries. Knives quickly became a part of the equation.

If you’re looking for a knife for little kids vs letting them learn with what you’ve got, Opinel’s le petit Chef set is a great starter. The stainless steel knife end is rounded for kid-use and there are learning rings and a finger guard to help cut and peel. Made in France. Looks great, too.
