Reasons I would date Edgar Roni Figaro:

1) He is a king.

2) He is a pretty smart fellow, what with building all that machinery

3) Charming, if a bit cheesy

4) He’s a rebel

5) Totally sweet and responsible. Tricked his bro into the freedom he wanted

6) Has lovely long hair with not one but two pretty bows

7) He is a rare Final Fantasy man who is not inappropriately young for me

I want to say that I truly appreciate anyone who makes the effort to write something and put it out there.  It takes a certain kind of bravery to face the void and expose yourself that way.  So, whether your story has 3 hits or 3000 hits, well done to you!

These are some of my personal favorite fics for Garak/Bashir:

Inside Out by Prevailing ( @allprevailing ).  An absolutely amazing, novel length fic.  I actually put off reading this for a very, very long time because I was not interested in Bajoran!Garak.  Eventually I gave it a chance and I could not have been more mistaken.  I couldn’t put it down and would recount the most recent chapter I had read to my boyfriend during our evening dog-walks.  The sequel (still in progress) is wonderful too.  Basically, read everything that Prevailing posts.

The Inconsequential Matter of the Feet by bmouse ( @bmouse ).  Another author who can do no wrong.  Long or short, up-beat or melancholy, bmouse writes in a way that conveys such depth of feeling.  bmouse also gets bonus points for sucking me into the Deep Dish Nine AU with her fic Julian Bashir’s Precious Little Life.  I lament the fact that it is probably abandoned, but it still holds a special place in my heart because as a general rule, I despise AUs.  She got me with this one though.

tinsnip ( @tinsnip ).  What can I say about this incredibly talented and prolific author that hasn’t already been said a dozen times?  Make yourself a nice, big cup of hot tea and settle down with ANY story she’s written.  You won’t be disappointed.  Oh!  Maybe try A-Tisket, A-Tasket if you’re in the mood for something really fun.

Moment by LadyYateXel ( @ladyyatexel ).  A short and sweet little vignette from the Deep Dish Nine AU, which we can all thank Lady for starting!  This particular story is from later in her series, but I am sucker for Human!Garak wearing reading glasses.  This story also captures the immediacy of those fluttery feelings you get when you realize you care about someone more than you knew.  Also, check out her blog for lots and lots of mind-blowing art.

Vestige by GulJerry ( @guljerry ).  GulJerry is one of the most imaginative writers I’ve ever known.  His vision of Post-Canon Cardassia is gritty and real, and while this fic can be a little… disturbing, it’s a roller-coaster ride that you don’t want to miss.  Plus, Garak with a vestigial vagina.  Like, who doesn’t want to read about that?!

Stik by JulianObviouslyLovesToad.  Okay, so this is not technically Garak/Bashir, but it was too good to leave off the list.  Another Post-Canon Cardassia (you can never go wrong with PCC), this time featuring a budding camaraderie and trust between still stuck tailoring Garak and a mentally anguished Damar, who has escaped torture by the remaining Dominion troops.  Seriously, you guys.  Read this one.

I could go on and on - KanarandTarkaleanTea, Jade_Waters.  We have so many incredible writers in our little corner of fandom.  I have seen many of my favorites on other lists, so check those out too.  If you write G/B, you pretty much rock!

cheer up happy garashir this is both a lovely compliment and a REALLY FRICKING GOOD LIST

1) Cyan, I understand that you don’t have much empathy for anyone having anything to do with the Empire right now, but I’m gonna need you to simmer down.

2) Cyan just kinda tosses Gau out of the way.

3) How bad was what Celes did to Maranda?

4) I love what Sabin says here, because it’s “I’m siding with Edgar” and also a very calm “I will fucking fight you Cyan, don’t test me.”

5) So dramatic

The Shadows That Run Alongside Our Car is a powerful visual novel narrative in which two strangers discuss their past, their music taste and the zombie apocalypse that’s wiping out humanity.

There may be no happy endings at the end of the world, but there are some powerful glimpses of humanity and a hope of finding some inner peace before the end comes.
