DD I'M REALLY SUPER EXCITED TO SEE YOU COMMENTING ON MARK READS DISCWORLD STUFF. I mean I thought you'd probably be interested in the reviews of the YW books when they went up, but I forgot for a moment that you were a Discworld fan (although I don't know how). It's wonderful to have you in the community.

dduane answered:

I’m glad to be there, if (as yet, and correctly) on the periphery.

Peter and I are first-generation Pratchett fans. By dint of going to a lot of British conventions for one reason or another, we got to be buddies with Terry, and wound up in many a late-night bar discussing Life, the Universe and Everything with him. Terry has often consulted Peter on matters surrounding weapons and militaria, and a few of the weapons that turn up in Discworld books were either redefined or invented for Terry’s purposes by Peter.

(There have been many other strange and happy moments as well. I remember sitting with Terry on the steps of a hotel bar in Leeds, again shooting the breeze about I can’t remember what, when without warning the bar doors flew open and Peter flew out of them, more or less between us, clutching a lasertag rifle [he had been inveigled into an LT game with four or five other people at the con]. P. did a shoulder roll as he hit the floor at the bottom of the stairs, leapt up, and tore off down the hall in pursuit of somebody or other. Terry and I watched this happen, then exchanged a glance, and Terry said to me, “I think it’s so nice that Peter has kids his own age to play with.”)

(Also, don’t get me started on the time Terry and Peter made off with somebody’s hot and sour soup. 😄)

He is our good friend and a writer whose work has inspired and delighted us both for damn near forever, and we’re privileged to be in his fandom.
