There are also key episodes that McGoohan wrote himself because they were part of the original seven. I believe he wrote Arrival and he definitely wrote Free For All which I love for its very cynical view of elections. It has one of my favorite moments when Number 6 gets onto the PA system and announces, "Obey me and be free."

tinsnip answered:

I thoroughly enjoyed Free For All!

I think my favourite was proooobably… oh God, the one with no dialogue for ever. I forget which one. I fail. But it was gorgeous.

I also really enjoyed the penultimate episode. Best Number Two.

And could you re-send me that allegory website? As I answered privately, tumblr ate the message! Such a good system!

The one with no dialogue for most of the episode is Many Happy Returns.  Yes, I quite like that one, too, even though it’s not part of the core seven.  Here’s a site with different episode orderings including KTEH’s ordering of which McGoohan approved.  It also has McGoohan’s core 7 episode list and the order in which he recommends viewing them.

And here’s the playlist of Scott Appel’s post episode analyses.  He’ll touch upon things like the meaning of the bicycle and discuss theories of the meaning of the butler.
