Merlins 15th Birthday!

Merlin is a 15 year old rescue cat,
she doesnt want a new home for her birthday
she doesnt need you to pay any vet bills either,
the biggest birthday present you can give is spreading the word about how awesome older cats are! I got her 2 years ago, she is a rescue cat I got from a loving family, but the younger cats in the household kept bulling her so much she needed a new home. She is calm, she never scratches or bites, she loves to play with strings, her favorite food is chicken. And she loves to be petted more than a single human can ever pet!
And I think an important part for young cat friends on tumblr is: You just got your first apartment and want a cat? dont get a tiny kitty, get an older one! Young kitties wreck your shit, they need space and freedom and sooooo much playtime and if you dont give enough they destroy your flat.
Now, look at Merlin, she is cute and fluffy and she doesnt destory anything, because she is really fucking old. (Still needs playtime to get that old bones moving tho)
I can tell you more about her vet bills being lower than getting a new cat fixed and about her life expectation being higher than you think, but thats enough for one birthday post! SO HAPPY BIRTHDAY MERLIN!
And dont forget to spread OLD CAT POSITIVITY!
Adult cats are great! Adopt one today!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MERLIN!
I got Hobbes younger than some of other cats who were available - he was 5 at the time. But I was always going to get an adult cat. I could never have kept up with a kitten. He is cute and fluffy and loves his bouncy feather toy and knows how to use the litter box and was already fixed!
And if you really want to talk the advantage of older cats and younger cats, just look at my twenty-two year old Blackie. Way, way more mellow in her old age than she ever was as a young’un. Way fewer assassination attempts, too.
My Zoe lived to be 18 and she was endlessly sweet and loving, could be petted for hours, still loved to play with the laser pointer and string, even still occasionally killed things, but was no where near the ball of sheer destruction that the kittens my parents got when they were ready to get a new pet after her death were. They were utterly unprepared for cats who got into everything and were really used to Zoe’s limitless chill. Zoe never stopped being an absolutely joy her whole life. You can definitely still get lots of fun and love and companionship from an older cat.
If I could get a cat in my current living situation, with all my art projects and dolls and just STUFF, I’d get an older cat for sure.
Plus they’re so much less likely to BE adopted than young cats, and the thought of it breaks my heart.
