are cafeterias a real thing like do those actually exist in america you just line up and get given gross food and then eat in the same room as your entire school??? if that happened at my school there’d be a riot imagine how loud that would be are cafeterias a myth

… well they exist in English private schools, at least. And I think state ones as well; pretty sure they’re a generally English thing. @imrix, can you confirm this?

They’re basically unheard of in Norwegian schools, where packed lunches dominate. There’s been a lot of rumbling about implementing it based on the successes of it in Sweden or something like that, but the last time I heard about it no public schools (ones operated by the government) offer lunches.

The giant cafeterias of US schools with their horiffic-looking food are fundamentally an alien concept here in Norway. (For one I expect there would be riots if a government institution tried to serve unappetizing food to children.)

Packed lunches are big in Norway. Even big high-tech engineering firms can expect people to pack their own lunches.
