Not in our area of research, you may perhaps be thinking of the Timpton Pass area of Arkansas which is well known for its “Seeing-Eye Dogwood”, a rather invasive magical species which has adapted well to the locale and is known to grow to excessive sizes in the conditions presented there.  The fact that the species relies on heat dispersal and is swollen to its greatest size when ready to multiply leads to a rather unsettling impression of the area during fire season.
