I admittedly crowdsourced this answer from baristas I know and my followers on twitter. The consensus is that you should buy something (a drink, a snack, whatever) approximately every 3 hours. There are a few factors to consider, though: if it’s busy, it’s appreciated if you buy more because you’re monopolizing a table that could go to other paying customers (who will complain to staff that there’s nowhere to sit). On the other hand, staff won’t really appreciate you bothering them constantly, especially if it’s really slow. One tip that was mentioned was that you should get to know the staff if you plan on spending time in the coffee shop regularly, as they’ll be nicer to you and won’t worry so much about you taking up space.
I do have to bring your attention to a magical place where you can study/read/blog all day long without buying anything: ✨the library!✨You can even bring in snacks or most likely buy them from the cafe or vending machines.
