Why save money when an individual deposit isn’t worth much?

gan-edhen

Your vote doesn’t do anything unless it makes or breaks a tie, which won’t happen, whereas your deposits each increase the actual utility of your savings

Your deposits don’t do anything unless they put you over the threshold of what you’re saving for.

Save as much money as you want, it will never destroy a corrupt and predatory banking system built by and through capitalism. Vote as much as you want, it will never dismantle systems of oppression built by and through the state. Individual acts are not systemic change.

The point of saving money isn’t to demolish the corrupt banking system, and the point of voting isn’t to demolish systems of oppression, so my point here still stands.

You tactically vote because if a shitload of people follow the exact same chain of logic as the top post here, the Democrat vote gets split between Gore and Nader and fucking Bush gets into office. Or your “individual vote” doesn’t actually affect the referendum so you can Stick It To The Man by voting for Brexit and oh hey whoops it won.

Basically, when considering a choice that is very important overall but in which you have a very small impact, assume everyone else is following your logic. Because all too often they are, and that’s why tragedy of the commons shit happens. If your carbon emissions have a negligible effect on the global climate, why not buy plastic and drive a Hummer?

Because when everyone thinks like that; everyone gets fucked over. That’s why.
