S04E14 - “Return to Grace”

Not to be confused with a Return to Innocence. More like a return to bottle episodes, so not all of this will be strictly about clothing. Deep Space Nine, look what you made me do.

Just the flax, ma'am

Kira packs for a diplomatic meeting. She’s traveling light, so just the essentials. Which, of course, include at least one crocheted garment.

I’m not sure I’d have a whole pineapple in my snacky fruit bowl. Don’t those require a blade and a lot of persistence? Then again, it is Kira.

I’m not even going to try to explain the bell peppers.

Padding out the story

It’s so great how the future is paperless! Now you can store all your data on… five different devices!

This is what’s sometimes adorable about the Star Trek future. The writers envisioned space ships and automatic doors and tablets, but they didn’t envision things like email or file transfers or microtized storage space. It’s not a flaw! It’s just fascinating how the actual future has played out in different ways than they thought.

Gul Whiner’s Daughter

Ziyal has a great dress in two tones of lavender brocade. I wouldn’t expect raglan sleeves in fancy fabrics like this, but it looks good. She also has a pretty gold ornament in her hair, but there’s not a single good screencap of it, because Trekcore hates me.

Obviously I’m just going to assume she’s wearing matching leggings and boots.

Flynn Lives

Cardassian ship design apparently takes its cues from video game arcades. That red checkered carpet, the dim lighting, the tilted monitors overhead… squint a little and you’ll see that behind Dukat is a Star Wars cockpit cabinet, and on the wall is Dance Dance Revolution.

And that man on the right is playing Galaga.

Uh… thanks, I’ll just have the protein pellets

I am distrustful of future food. Kira appears to have a split-pea soup aspic with salsa. Dukat is having a whole head of boiled cabbage. They’re gonna need some more wine.

If you give a mouse a freighter…

It’s always fun to see what the Props Department comes up with for miscellaneous scenes. Here the cargo hold appears to be designed for Little Rodentia. Can you spot all of these items?

  • giant soda cans
  • giant manual pencil sharpeners
  • giant cat5 end plugs
  • giant Lego bricks
  • giant confetti poppers
  • giant hex nuts

Give yourself a gold star if you found them all!

Klingons gonna Kling

No particular divergence from their usual look here, from wavy hair to pointy boots. I am impressed with the nearest woman’s eyebrows. And also with the variety of auto parts she seems to have on her front.

The fish says AAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaa…..

I’m not sure what the Screaming Fish Festival entails. Probably a lot of artisanal microbrews. But whatever it is, Green Velvet Extra is READY.

In conclusion, I leave you with this face:
