Indiana Jones finds common ground with a Nazi scientist
From the same conversation:
“Didn’t you notice all those hideously deformed bones?”
“Experiments gone awry. Unworthy slaves sacrificed in the name of knowledge. Progress has its price, you know.”
“Maybe they were all too human, like you.”
This is likely a canny allusion to Ubermann’s two different depictions: bald and gray-haired in the adventure game, and red-haired with a Hitler moustache in the comic book (and action game/gambling simulator XD).
In fact, Dr. Ubermann’s varying appearance seems to be a deliberate riff on DC Comics’ Lex Luthor, foe of Superman.
Back in the 1930s, Luthor was originally depicted with red hair, but in later appearances he was bald, because DC artists confused Luthor with another villain called the Ultra-Humanite.
(Also, does this mean Dr. Ubermann is LucasArts’ equivalent of Ziggy from Sierra’s Dagger of Amon Ra?)
I finally looked up red-haired Hitler-stached Ubermann and I really regret it
