From the July 1994 issue of PC Games magazine: Brian Moriarty gives an interview about LucasArts’ Loom and his design work at his subsequent employer, Rocket Science Games.

An interesting bit of the exchange, translated out of German:

PC Games: Bobbin Threadbare, the main character in Loom, has no face. What was the reason for that?

Brian Moriarty: That was deliberate. My theory was that the player could better identify with Bobbin. Even Bobbin’s voice in the CD version was practically genderless. That way, female gamers could also immerse themselves in the game’s events.

Interesting to hear that Moriarty intended Bobbin to be virtually asexual, even in the talkie CD version of Loom! Not terribly surprising, though, since weaving and using a distaff are traditionally feminine endeavors.
