Given the news about the DS9 documentary, I checked the Twitter timelines of Ron Moore and Robert Hewitt Wolfe to see if they had any extra info. Neither one mentioned it. But Wolfe posted the interesting trivia above. The motto he wanted translates loosely as “don’t tread on me”.
Moore’s timeline is full of SF Giants posts. I didn’t know he was a big fan and he attends games while in SF. Moore wrote Take Me Out to the Holosuite and I now assume he specifically wanted Sisko to be wearing a Giants cap in that episode.
