Can’t I open a treasure chest in this game without weirdos showing up?

Siegfried sort of pops out of nowhere, engages in (extremely pathetic) combat with you and runs away with the treasure.

The whole episode calls Gilgamesh and FFV to mind, and I remember all these conspiracy theories from back in the day that Siegfried actually IS Gilgamesh. Bear in mind, this was before Gilgamesh randomly reappearing in several Final Fantasies was a THING. (Gilgamesh doesn’t officially show up in the original version of FFVI at all, though he does appear as an esper and a coliseum boss in this GBA version)
