44 Things You Probably Didn’t Know about Therapy
If you’ve been a follower here for very long, you know 2 things about HTGTFU’s approach to mental health: 1. I believe strongly in reaching out for help, especially professional help, and 2. I am not a mental health professional. That basically boils down to not posting much about mental health in general, but today I’m breaking that rule to talk about therapy.
There is so very much about therapy that the media gets wrong (even the shows based on this!) and I think it’s not only given people an unrealistic idea of what therapy is and how it works, but it’s created a culture of secrecy and shame around seeking help. So I’m here today to help clear up some misconceptions about therapy: what it is, what you can expect, and why you need to stop feeling bad (or worse, shaming others) for going.
I do want to, once again, issue a disclaimer that I am not a mental health professional and that much of this is based on my own experiences and the experiences of others.
