Reflect on World Refugee Day with Indie Games

Circumstances beyond control force many to leave their homes for safety. IndieCade’s honored to showcase games that educate what the life of a refugee can be like. Today we honor these developers’ stories & show that we stand #WithRefugees.

Attempt to cross the “Borders” while avoiding La Migra & staying hydrated. When the player dies, a skeleton is permanently recorded in the game’s world. “Borders” is inspired by the dev’s family’s true story of crossing into America. It was at IndieCade’s 2017 E3 Showcase!

Play as an immigration inspector in the bureaucratic “Papers, Please”. Each day smugglers, spies, & terrorists slip into
Arstotzka
among the immigrants. Using primitive inspections and fingerprints, quickly decided who may enter safely or be detained. “Papers, Please” was featured at IndieCade’s 2013 Night Games!

The far-future “UnEarth Initiative” ousted a colony of undesirable citizens from Earth into desolate space. Players must create a poorly equipped colonization mission to survive. “UnEarth Initiative” was an IndieCade 2014 Digital Selection.

“North” is a game about applying for asylum in a city filled with terrifying & strange creatures. Explore a sprawling mega-city, puzzle out the land’s strange customs, and pass an unnerving test to make it to freedom. “North” was at our 2017 E3 Showcase.

“Liyla & The Shadows of War” is a gripping game about escaping from Gaza. Get your family out safely to survive. “Liyla & The Shadows of War” was at our inaugural IndieCade Europe in 2016!

“Cloud Chasers” is about a world burnt up and transformed into an unsustainable wasteland. Francisco’s corn no longer grows in the dusty earth, so he journeys with his family to safety. Guide his family through five deadly deserts towards the promised land above the clouds. “Cloud Chasers” was at IndieCade’s 2015 E3 Showcase.
