Dear fandom people with significant others, I have a question:

How do they interact with your interest in your fandom? Are they interested in it too? To what extent? Do they accept it, but it’s just not their thing? Do they actively encourage you to be a part of it? What’s your SO’s relationship with your fandom?

I’m just curious, because it’s silly but I have a difficult time picturing how a relationship and a heavy interest in fandom intersect/coexist. Mostly I just don’t think anyone will ever want me because I get so invested in fandoms. Any first-hand accounts or information would be appreciated.

I’m a virgo-libra cusp, so that’s a thing too. :D

Mr. Snip is uninterested in my fannish stuff. He’s watched Next Gen, he can talk Trek, but it’s not his thing. He, meanwhile, likes to meditate and go for runs, and the idea of this causes my skin to peel off in one thick layer.

It’s just our varying interests. He’ll listen to me talk about fandom, I’ll listen to him talk about health - or audio, that’s another thing for him - and we both enjoy how the other one is having so much fun.

If you find someone who gets a kick out of your personality, then they don’t care what you like as long as you like it.

But remember to make room for them too. If I Trekked all the time, if he never shut up about albums vs. CDs, we’d both die of boredom.

my two cents
