Actually, the thing about
objectum sexuality
which struck me most of all was how small of a psychological leap it is, relative to normal relationship drives. It seems like
objectum sexuality is just a combination of animism, which is pretty much the human default, plus the ability to love someone who doesn’t love you back, or more precisely the ability to love the idea of someone, which is also common enough. It’s not really a huge step to connect those two things. It’s less about misdirected sexuality (from my cursory look the sexual aspect seems quite secondary) and more about misdirected animism, applying those instincts in ways that weren’t evolutionarily intended. Take all that and add an odd personality which maybe doesn’t internalize social norms and you get
