if you want a playlist for banging folks this probably isn’t the one for you, but if you want to Go Off, Historically then WHAT’S UP 

• The Parson’s Farewell by Bear McCreary (circa 1651)
  
• Rogues in a Nation by Steeleye Span (1791)
• Black Sails Main Title by Bear McCreary
• You Will Burn by Steeleye Span (actually written in the 1990s, but you wouldn’t think it) 
• Ampleforth/Lay Me Low by The Albion Band (this was written in the ‘70s, but The Albion Band, and this album in particular, is made up of a bunch of old Fairport Convention members with vocals from people like Martin Carthy and Maddy Prior of Steeleye Span, and you really don’t get more Traditional English Folk than that)
  
• Poor Old Horse by The Albion Band (see above)
• Twa Corbies by Steeleye Span (1611)  
• Babylon Is Fallen by Sacred Harp (1640s - this is the only half-decent version I could find, as previously I’ve only heard it sung around a fire by drunk English civil war reenactors)
• Over the Hills and Far Away by John Tams (late 1600s, sometimes something goes hard because of the feelings it stirs in your breast, and not because it actually goes hard)

• The Hangman and the Papist by The Strawbs (another one written in the late 20th century by someone whose past life must have been thrilling) 
• Tam Lin - Anaïs Mitchell and Jefferson Hamer (1549 - and, listen, this isn’t a banger on its own, but when you compare it to other versions of Tam Lin it goes off)
• King Henry by Steeleye Span (my dad and I go a lot harder than Steeleye Span when we sing this, but still)
