In Slavic folklore, the narecnitsi are a type of fairy, associated with fate, who will appear around newborn children and foretell their future. Often, they will appear after the birth of a future king or warrior.

The narecnitsi appear in many Bulgarian epics, including the story of Prince Marko and the tales of the brigand Momchil. Their name comes from the Old Bulgarian word “narecha,” to foretell.
