As an addendum to the preceding comment concerning “pierogi, painted eggs, and people in poofy trousers being irresponsible with swords”, if you’ve never seen a traditional Ukrainian sword dance, you’re totally missing out. Video doesn’t really do it justice, but this will have to suffice!

Typically not, in modern performances, though even a dull blade of that size can wreak considerable bodily havoc if you happen to fumble it in the middle of a particularly energetic manoeuvre.
