Blake didn’t realize they were transgender for a long time because of inadequate access to information as a Deaf person. Now they’re sharing their own story online so other Deaf trans people know they’re not alone.

this is tangential, but this is why: if you do a vlog, ADD SUBTITLES. otherwise you’re excluding a whole lot of people. If you can’t do subtitles, do a transcription! if you’re really seeking to communicate, why shut out entire sections of the audience?
This. It doesn’t just help Deaf/HOH people, although that in itself is more than reason enough.
It also helps people who have audio processing disorder, people who don’t want to make noise, people who have to be careful not to make noise but can’t wear earbuds because those impair one’s ability to listen watchfully*, people who just plain don’t like listening to videos and would rather read transcripts because it’s easier/faster, people who learn and understand better by reading, and so on.
MANY people benefit from subs/transcripts and I have started adding both to all my videos on youtube.
* Hey. Hey, to those of you who are in shitty situations and having to constantly watch your back, I see you and I love you and I hope things get much easier very soon. You don’t deserve to be so afraid.
