Medicalese101: Sinuses
Sinuses:
1) pockets within bone containing air or sometimes blood. The skull has frontal, maxillary, sphenoid, and ethmoid sinuses.
2) in Southern vernacular, “sinuses” is a condition encompassing everything from nasal congestion, headaches, seasonal allergies, sinusitis, or a viral URI.
3) not an acceptable diagnosis
Patient: “Oh I’m not contagious. I just got sinuses.”
Bringing it back because I’m seeing a lot of people for sinuses lately.
