They help the CG and VFX artists to create/compose the effects and track the movement properly so it doesn’t feel unnatural. It’s like an anchor or base to work upon. It helps the artists a lot if the actors don’t move too rapidly or irregularly so that’s probably why you notice a difference in how they move. I’d imagine that the trackers probably add some awkward weight too.
