I LOVE the visual design Good Omens’ Heaven. Like, making Hell look sucky is pretty easy (although I like Good Omens’ take on it too. The balance between ‘Demons rule it’ and ‘Demons were banished it as punishment’ as just… a REALLY crappy office environment is pretty inspired), but…. man, Heaven looks INSUFFERABLE.
Everything is just…. too much; too clean, too bright, too sterile, too empty.
And it extends beyond the set-design, I love how Heaven is the land of Forced Smiles and Weird-Looking Uncomfortable Close Ups. It just creates a great sense of unease in every scene. Every time Gabriel forces his stupid head so close to the camera, the hostility just OOZES off the screen.
And of course, Outfit Design. The other Angels have some clear…. aesthetic consistency with Aziraphale. But on the same time, they all look just different enough from his manner of dress to make it clear he’s an Outsider to them… He doesn’t really fit in there. Not anymore at least.
