I keep thinking about the “THANK YOU FOR MY PORNOGRAPHY” scene. The first thing about it is it’s especially hilarious because Gabriel is being unnecessary extra about the whole thing and it really show cases his ignorance towards humans.
But I keep thinking about just how.
Gabriel and Sandelphon come into the bookshop and Gabriel picks up a book. He has no idea it’s called a book. He calls it a material object and Sandelphon has to help him. He then tries to come up with a reason to speak in private despite the fact that Aziraphale is just ready to take them to the back room and again, Sandelphon needs to help him.
Gabriel accepts the idea of pornography because he understands that porn can be embarrassing and not generally done in public but does not understand that if you’re embarrassed and trying to keep something a secret, you do not SCREAM about it.
They basically come off as two dick head friends or older brothers of Aziraphale who are purposely trying to embarrass him and Aziraphale is just like
And that’s what makes it all so funny because the two angels could have just walked in and pretended they were friends with Aziraphale. They could have acted like family, or long time costumers. They really honestly could have just walked back into the room without a word and the humans would not have given a flying fuck. If they noticed, they would have assumed they knew the store owner or worked there.
It’s all so simple until I realized something.
The scene implied that Gabriel and Sandelphon have no idea that humans can form bonds with each other. They believe they need a reason to explain out loud as to why they’re speaking to Aziraphale in another room instead of just knowing that humans actually speak to one another because they like each other and can.
They have no concept of friendship or families.
It’s also interesting to note that in several other versions of media with angels that they tend to refer to each other as brother/sister or at least family. Like Lucifer or Supernatural but they don’t do that here. Heaven is strictly a business.
