Lady Yate-xel, I think you’re on to something. It is the slimy fetal thing that’s weirding me out. She’s kind of pink and icky. One or the other I can handle. Both is hard.
And I agree with you about her half-formed personality. She doesn’t seem to have an arc. She just kind of shows up, loves her dad, turns up on DS9, says things to people? because the plot requires her to? i guess? and then apparently soon she’s going to die? again because the plot requires her to? so someone else can grow as a character?
Not well handled, and this is on a show that treats even its minor characters like teeny tiny precious things (hi Brunt, hi Weyoun, hi Damar, hi Leeta, etc.), so it really does stand out.
The way Garak reacts to the kiss in this episode is interesting. He’s not quite expecting it, he definitely enjoys it, but his reaction isn’t passionate. When she pulls away and hugs him, he looks like he’s going to burst into tears. Is it being loved that he can’t handle? Is he worried that he’s going to go to the special hell because he’s so desperate for affection that he’s losing his ability to turn her down? How much has he told her about himself?
Wow, this is badly written. I do hope the meaning gets across.
