“The pretty one *knows things.*”  I am dying. I can imagine the look in his eyes. That would probably have made Julian take a half-step back. “What… what did I just do…?”

Agree w/ you re: demonizing female characters for the sake of the ship. It’s gross and icky. And Leeta is pretty awesome. And I’m amused and excited that Julian may try to hit on her awkwardly, because Julian hitting on people awkwardly is pretty much ice cream and chocolate cake. /chin on hands

Hee, Julian and Garak and comic books?? You take this to wonderful places… I know so little about comics - I’d love to see you bring some knowledge in. And I think you’re right; I think Julian teaching Garak something would definitely qualify as a “Dear Diary, OMG” kind of day. Julian’s schedule will be absolutely insane, but everybody fits in friend time when they can, even better if friend time is kind of vaguely sexy? friend time - that’s what weekends are for - and overnights, too. (Oh, my, a platonic overnight visit - I’m all keyed up suddenly - and what the hell is wrong with me?)

“Of course Garak sassily gives no shits about people’s opinions! They are all grossly uninformed and their opinions are thus invalid anyway!”  Grinning and lol’ing and nodding, yup yup. I can definitely see him trying to protect Julian - which causes problems of its own, indeed - but his own reputation? Fuck ‘em.

I’m quite curious about these less-than-pleasant conversations Miles is going to have. I love Miles, in any universe. He’s the sane one. (Somehow.) You write him well, too, so I’m looking forward to that. (I should talk less so you can write more. But that would involve me talking less. Life is so haaaard~)

OH BOY peanut butter sandwich flailing - I’m delighted - I love your Julian’s what the hell did I just say moments! I’m trying to imagine the conversation and failing utterly, and I’m so excited~

I am indeed making a thing with the dancing. It’s sort of in your world, I guess? You’d recognize Garak and Julian for sure. I think I’m taking your canons as canon, and then kind of spinning off from there. This AU map looks kind of like a spiderweb. I like it.

And a big fat snerk to Garak cruising in with a high level character. Love it.

Haha, yes! Definitely a visible dawning moment of ‘Holy shit, back up, this changes everything,’ on Garak that is confusing and possibly slightly alarming on Julian’s end.  And then, before he can be properly weirded out, it turns out that Garak isn’t drifting into mental screensaver mode at the sound of Julian’s voice, but instead likes what he says and chats right back about it. At which point there is some mutual restrained delight. This is adorable to me now, why have I done this to myself at work.

I knew you’d be pleased on the Leeta front for some reason.  I think she seems to be discounted a little as ‘Just boobs,’ but she’s actually smart, capable, and knows what she wants and there’s nothing skeevy or diminished about her.  No one trashes Leeta for working as casino eye-candy, no one thinks she’s some kind of dirty person, and she’s so comfortable and confident and genuine.  She didn’t get a ton of development, but I think she’s really a solid background person and honestly kind of a rad female character. She didn’t get the kind of ‘special guest star’ background development that Garak did, certainly, and she didn’t even really get as much as Nog, but I felt if they had to have someone who was recurring but not being super plot heavy, she was excellent for that.  I have nothing but good things to say about Leeta. (Incidentally, I saw her actress at Gallifrey One this weekend and did not recognize her until she spoke and then my brain sort of rebooted. Freaky as hell.)  Leeta will be eye-candying a poker table or a roulette wheel or something at Quark’s in DD9. I imagine she’s really enjoying her time there for the sake of Quark’s dorky brother, but she’s not about to sit around waiting for someone who she thinks doens’t notice/care, so if/when Julian cruises by, she’ll be all over that.

I admittedly do not know a fuck ton about comics.  My ex was heavily into them and she was far more versed than I was or will probably ever be, but I know enough to get by with this.  My idea with this world is that it is very our world but not?   I mean, obviously, we don’t have Cardassia as a country in our world, so that’s different, but this world also wouldn’t have specific characters and brands. So specifically no James Bond, for example, as well as no Batman, Superman, etc.  I often feel like naming these things makes “just to the left of reality” AUs ring a little oddly and also risks making them sounding dated or Real Country specific (as in, ‘WOW, this shit was written by an American! You can tell by the restaurants they go to!’).  So, I’m not sending anyone to a Starbucks, and Julian won’t be showing Garak the merits of Persepolis or The Watchmen or anything like that.   I’d like them to be based in the cultures/countries I’ve already derived from the different races, even.  Imagine if Julian has translated Cardassian graphic novels!  Then it’s Julian saying, “No, this is a legitmate story telling format,” and it’s Garak explaining the cultural elements~  Learning for EVERYONE.

I JUST WANT EVERYONE TO FALL IN LOVE AND LEARN THINGS.

And jeez, Platonic Sleepover sounds like it can only lead to a bunch of not-sure-if-flirting and weird not-sure-if-sexual tension. It appeals to me (keyed up indeed), though I’m trying to imagine what circumstances would result in that happening.  If someone’s apartment flooded, I guess. I just can’t imagine Julian naive enough to accept an invitation to stay unless he really had to when things are in super early stages.  Though maybe in some sort of mid-stage thing, this could work, because weird sort of flirting is sort of mutual at that point?  This is terrible whyamiconsideringthis.  THOUGH, the peanut butter thing is related to this!

It’s definitely important to Garak to protect Julian in general, but only from things that Julian can’t do anything about himself? Meaning, Garak would be making sure nothing weird from his own past got to Julian, but he’s not going to jump in and meddle in Julian’s life without being asked, because Julian is an adult and can handle his own stuff. Garak doesn’t want to give the impression - and neither do I! - that Julian needs to be rescued from his life or his own choices or just whatever.  Miles not so much.  One of the things I found fascinating about Miles was how often he did things that I thought were absolutely the worst possible thing to do, so I think I’m dragging a little of that with him over to pizza land.  He’ll be getting screamed at by Julian later and end up leaving Garak’s place one day with the vague sense that he’s been threatened, despite talking to a man who was very pleasantly making tea at the time.

Do you understand that I now have to compose my responses in Word because of this damned quote system and how much we TALK??

Re: adorable - hee hee, mutual restrained delight, my favourite, and then the oven goes “ding” and lunch is ready and they’re both just a bit disappointed, and Julian says, well, I AM due for my break - and he takes an hour instead of fifteen minutes, with Kira’s eyes boring into his head the whole time. Poor Julian, written up again. Does that carry any real consequences, I wonder? Or is it just being in Kira’s shit book? Which might be worse, granted. Heh, I kind of like that - there’s really no such thing as being written up, Kira just writes down everything you did wrong and makes you sign it, and then she gives it to Sisko when he comes in, and he kind of looks at her.

I like Leeta. She’s fluffy and sweet and takes no prisoners and doesn’t apologize for it, ever. I’m quite curious to see how she exists in your DD9. I haven’t quite found her in mine yet. She might be at the club. I love the idea of her working at Quark’s because she likes his dorky brother (oh, DD9 Rom, he would be so freaking adorable, huge ears and crooked teeth and this soul that just shines - and Leeta would love that, because she knows about pretty and exactly how deep it goes - look, I’m freaking out in parentheses!).

And envious of your Gallifrey One experiences - the pics look so fun - I haven’t been to a con in far too long; may have to go this year. How cool to see Chase Masterson. Was she as fun as she seems?

And Leeta will be INTO Julian? Ooh, that’s even better than rejection! Complicated choices and easy physical attraction vs. well, Garak’s mind is amazing, but the rest isn’t quite as instinctive, and isn’t it easier to just slide a hand around Leeta like this, and… Hmm, complicated! My brain runs away with me with this stuff.

Oh, no brands! Our worlds differ a bit, I guess, because I’m kind of enjoying juxtaposing my IRL experience and Julian/Garak’s worlds. I’ve got DOBs pegged for them both, and what kind of music they’d therefore listen to (because it’s mostly what you hear in your teens that you carry around, even if you hated your teens), and what they like to drink… I know it’s Canada-centric, but I figure I read fic set all around the world, so I guess this’ll work for me… Although I agree, no Starbucks, and fast food will stay pretty generic. But band names, though. And I like the idea of races-as-countries. And I adoooore the idea of Cardassian graphic novels, and Julian teaching Garak about them!? is delightful and would set him right back on his heels, yes yes yes.

“I JUST WANT EVERYONE TO FALL IN LOVE AND LEARN THINGS.”  /puts it on a shirt

Platonic sleepover is appealing, and I kind of figured it’d be the natural fallout of a movie marathon. Come over and watch the first three not-James-Bond flicks with me, hmm, okay, we’ll start early, except they forget to allow for the fact that it takes two hours in between movies for them to discuss it properly, and also Julian talks over half the movie, so Garak keeps having to rewind, and between one thing and another it’s four in the morning and Garak’s still there, wrapped up in a quilt, sitting on Julian’s floor. It’s lovely and intimate being the only two people in the world who are awake, and being together; you make food, and talk, and it’s strange and special, even if nobody kisses anybody. Hell, it feels like that when you’re with friends who you DON’T want to rip your clothes off; it’s a special intensity when you’re kind of hoping they do.

If this Garak understands that this Julian is not to be protected, he’s smarter than my Garak. Well, my Garak is in early days, and Julian may teach him that he can do fine on his own before my Garak makes any really stupid mistakes. Tell me about Miles and his stupid mistakes:  what really stood out to you? I always see him as kind of level-headed and pragmatic, which means he does what he thinks needs to be done. What did he really mess up?

And threats over teeeeeea~

Oh, I hope this doesn’t affect his friendship with Julian too badly… That’s a hell of a thing to trade. /suddenly sad
