Soundless Mountain II is an NES-style demake of the first 30-60 minutes or so of the survival horror classic, Silent Hill 2. It was created for a TIGSource demake competition, which it won in 2008. The game’s creator, Jasper Byrne, is probably best known for the 2012 indie hit Lone Survivor, also a 2D horror game with serious Silent Hill influences.
His love for the series clearly established, it should come as no surprise that this demake does a pretty good job of capturing the feel of the original. It is light on content (really more a proof of concept or prototype than a full game) but if you, like me, get a kick out of seeing game elements remixed and repurposed in interesting ways, then it may be worth your time to give this free download a shot.
