…I think I want to buy Una McCormack a drink and get her to explain exactly what the fuck was going on with that plot.
Layers upon layers. And I’m still not sure what that one fellow had going on.
Oh, well. Good read!
Una writes the very best confused, disoriented, grasping-for-reality Garak. Twice in two books now…
:3
Another thing I really like about Una McCormack is that you can trust her writing.
There was a character who I thought was written rather clunkily. I was slightly grumpy about it. I expected better from Una.
And then, of course, it was on purpose, because that character is _strange_…
A good writer. A _trustworthy_ writer, who wields language like a tool.
Another best thing Una’s really caught is the violence that seems to bubble below the surface every time Garak and Sisko interact. There’s something very volatile there.
Now Garak is disappointed that Sisko wasn’t cheered up by the riot they caused~~~~~~
Sisko and Garak are running like assholes to get away from pissed-off pacifists~~~
Sisko is angry, and Garak is having a _whale_ of a time~~~
Things I adore in “Hollow Men”:
Odo randomly shapeshifting just a little when he’s nervous or considering something. The equivalent of me tugging at my hair.
