Okay - so tell me about it!
A little Cardassian girl falls off her bike and skins her knee. She blames her own clumsiness.
The next day she finds out that she fell because her little brother sabotaged her bike (mean little critter). She blames him for her fall.
Ten years later she finds out he sabotaged her bike because their parents punished him for something she did and he was bitter. She blames him, but also her parents.
What happens to her memory of the past? A human would just have all these layers of emotions associated with the event. Does a Cardassian have three separate little pasts?
An example:
CARDASSIAN
First stage: I fell off my bike and skined my knee. I blame my own clumsiness. BUT since this is just the first stage of my memory of this event, i don’t give a closure to it, it is not somthing with a beguining, a storyline and end, it is not completed for me. It could be not what really happened and I may be missing things.
Second stage: I fell off my bike and skined my knee, i blame myself for not beeing able to “predict the past” and found out that it was my brother. The only surprise, somehow, is only the person who did it (i wasnt a closed memory for me). BUT, it could be only the second part of my memory, it is an incompleted event in my mind, many details could be missing. I add to my first stage memory some details: my brother was missing in the yard for a while that day thatI fell off my bike and skined my knee because he was sabotaging it. I expect more changes in the future, maybe if i am experienced and observant in my life i can come to the conclusion that my parents sent my brother to do it. (For example: what else did happened that day)
Third stage: I feel off my bike and skined my knee, so one of my “past-expectatives” has been verified.
1. Cardassians are fucking suspicious
2. Cardassians create “past-expectatives”
3. A memory is never “closed” so truth is an incomplete and vague concept for them.
4. Cardassians´s capacity for recalling details might be just huge
HUMAN
Past: I fell off my bike and skined my knee. I am stupid.
After the brother´s sabotage´s discovery:
Past: I fell off my bike and skined my knee.
Present: what the hell??? it was my brother???? i blame him!!!!
After the parents´ punishment´s discovery:
Post past: I fell off my bike and skined my knee.
Past: I used to blame my poor borther, oh my god.
Present: I blame myself because it was all my fault.
