Summary:

Crowley was out in the garden.

Aziraphale was in his study, most definitely not looking out the window.

Really. Really. One little speck of sentiment: was it so much to ask?

Some A/C fluff. Bruised feelings and awkward make-ups: the best.

The cottage isn’t going anywhere, Crowley reasoned. There was no need to rush these things.

Or, before they settle down, Crowley and Aziraphale go on a road trip.

Does bloody not count as a swear?

Also : bugger!

Maybe it only counts if he’s sober.

Maybe when he’s drunk he swears a blue streak, but only Crowley knows, so he’s got plausible deniability.

“Get out of the road, you stupid sack of–

“Language, Crowley!”

“Sorry, Aziraphale.”

“You know I prefer not to hear that kind of talk.”

“Of course I do, Aziraphale.”

“And it doesn’t behoove you to act in such a base way.”

“I am a demon, Aziraphale…”

“Yes, but really. Show some class. I’m sure you can handle a simple matter of road navigation without cursing in that way. Do you know, I haven’t said a foul word in over four thousand years.”

“Is that so, Aziraphale…”

“Indeed. And if I can do it, my dear boy, you can do it.”

“Mmm. Tell me again, Aziraphale, what you said last night when you knocked your wine all over that awfully lovely first edition of The Happy Prince?”

“…”

“Mmm-hmm. Right.”

“What if we just get inside the bentley and drive and drive and see where it takes us”

“Are you suggesting a road trip, angel?”

Weeks after the almostapocalpyse, Aziraphale and Crowley attempt to go back to their daily routines and find a sense of normalcy. But they’re both on the edge since the recent events. They’re tired of being anxious and glancing behind their backs when feeding ducks in the park or eating lunch. Aziraphale gets the idea when they stumbled across an old painting of Paris in one of their dates in the National Gallery.

They’re due for a vacation, anyways.

Bruce Cockburn - Embers of Eden

you knelt on the carpet, crimson and stained

light trickled over your black dress like rain

your lips were hot, and my shocked heart screamed

and i can’t scrape my eyes free of this dream

we each occupy the same space/time

matter, antimatter, tangled like vines

and the awful tolling, and the cold rain outside

and i cannot scrape this dream off my eyes

and the embers of Eden burn, you can even see it from space

and the great and winding wall between us seems to copy the lines of your face

Bruce Cockburn: Look How Far (1999)

on this rooftop where we’re sitting in the rays of the setting sun

glasses of wine on a crate between us catch the light,

seem to glow from within

and there’s a laugh hanging in the air

and there’s no desperation anywhere

so many miles, so many doors; some need patience, some need force

all fall open in their own due course to allow us this time

and you’re limned in light, golden and thin

looks to me like you’re lit up from within

and look how far the light came to paint you this way
