nothing like a sci fi convention to remind you exactly how niche your incredibly niche fandom interests are

One of my fav Dragon Con panels ever, probably 3 years ago, was called “Pass the Sour Milk” and was all about the Alien Nation TV show, which was my FAVORITE TV show during the time it was on, more than Star Trek TNG. I have it and all the TV movies on DVD. A set of book adaptations (which I sold once I read.) And the soundtrack on cassette. I had never met anyone who loved it like I do, and that one hour was like a mini-convention. I hope THAT makes it onto Netflix one day. Then there will be a fan fiction explosion. The world NEEDS that.

The Tenctonese alphabet from Alien NationGraphic by Jeff Lee.  It seems to be missing the clicks, which feature prominently in spoken Tenctonese.  Read more about the Tenctonese language here and here.  I’m disappointed to find the creators never constructed a “real” language like Klingon or Elvish for the Newcomers.

But I’m much more disappointed that there’s hardly any Alien Nation content online.  This is actually the first post on Tumblr tagged “Tenctonese.”  I know it’s been 17 years since the last film and 19 since the last novel, but I thought a series this strong would have more staying power.
