Okay but why is Odo the communications officer in this episode? If they need him on the Defiant for Plot Reasons can’t they just make a position up? Like, The Closest Thing We Have To An Official Changeling Consultant? (That’s always a useful thing to have in these times, even just in the Alpha Quadrant). There are a million and one people in this crew who are better suited for the communications job - between the many Starfleet operations people, various Bajoran operations people, and Garak, who might be an epic-level security risk but is also pretty much the sapient equivalent of the blank tile in a game of Scrabble and should be in more episodes anyway, you’d think they’d be able to scrounge up someone.
