Actual best friend Miles O'Brien, 3/3.

He just kills me in this episode, in the best possible way. He warns Julian as kindly as he can. He sees how Julian’s falling way too hard way too fast, but he’s not only worried about Julian. He’s worried about Sarina. This is not going to work out well. He knows it. So he lays it out for Julian. This is too fast. She is your patient. Woman of your dreams, eh? Okay. Good luck. And when Julian beats himself up with the exact same things Miles said to him, Miles doesn’t say “I told you so.” He says, “Yeah, I know. It sucks. You’re human. Come over for dinner. Keiko’s making tempura.”

Tie that to Ezri’s little comment earlier in the episode about how men pretend they don’t like each other because they can’t talk about their feelings, and I am just crey all over the place over these two.

Miles O'Brien = one hundred percent good dude. He's trying.

Lwaxana Troi and Odo

It’s been said, by even the producers, that O’Brien and Bashir are the only real friendship that’s ever happened on Star Trek. These two really are friends. It’s not like some kind of odd couple scenario, like Spock and Kirk. It’s a real friendship. These people talk about inane things, and I think that’s been really refreshing.

6x09 Statistical Probabilities

Wow,  absolutely excellent Bashir & O'Brien interaction in this episode so far. Miles puts his foot in it a bit and Julian is fine with that, because it’s Miles. Julian is a bit weird and Miles is fine with that, because it’s Julian. The darts game is lovely - dancing around each other, and I thought it was going to turn into a fight, but no, they’re just picking at each other, because that’s what they do, that’s how they defuse tense situations, by niggling at them so that they have to face them and deal with them before they cause a problem. “Miles is uncomplicated.” “Julian is superior.” Right, right, now let’s both play darts, and get back to your line! And I know that was probably supposed to be a little oooh, repression of genetically engineered peeps, but sheesh, Julian, it’s darts, get back to your line.
