lemonsweetie asked:

Is there a a topic you've always wanted to see/always wanted to write in a fic for Garak/Bashir?

feltelures answered:

Oh goodness, there are so many of them. Certainly one of the big ones would be that I would love to have actually seen the process of Julian coming to terms with the fact that his oldest friend on DS9 and steady lunch partner used to torture and murder people for a living. He seems very “Oh, okay” about it in the show, but I know there’s a story there. tinsnip did a marvelous job of it in DD9 verse with “Disconnect,” but I would love to see it in the main universe, too. I’d write it myself, but I have so many other projects I want to write first that I doubt I’ll ever get to it.

On a lighter note, I really would have loved to have seen more reciprocity in what those two shared with each other, culture-wise. That, however, is something I’m in the middle of writing, so you’ll actually see that from me at some point. :D;;

Thanks for asking! <3

Yes Disconnect was utterly fantastic. And I am excited to see what writings from you are on the way~*~

Oh man I have always thought about that too. Especially because it’s very nature is the exact opposite of what Julian has done for a career. At first it seemed like the “I’m a spy” was an inside joke, always simmering below the surface, never boiling over for a few seasons in the show. After the “Die In The Cast” it’s certain that he was in the Order, but how long did it take for Bashir to find out? Were there restrictions on the information when they returned? There’s a playful interaction with Garak and Julian in “The Way of the Warrior” but no mention of him being a spy. It’s not until another season with “Our Man Bashir” until Garak talks openly about it with Julian.

I haven’t read through ASIT yet, but I remember reading a quote about how Garak was upset that Julian was becoming more distant after that episode. Maybe when Bashir is put in the situation where he either  kill/stops Garak or all Julian’s friends die, that Julian has to finally face what Garak being in the Obsidain Order really meant.

There’s also the thought of how Julian reacts after he “officially” deals with Garak being a murder/torturer of the Obisidian Order. Julian does, after all, “get to know” Tain while he was a prisoner in the Dominion camp. Then in turn, sees how Garak’s skills form the Order saved their lives. Maybe Julian also changes in thought as well when he views Garak as “joining the good guys” once the war as broken loose?

Oh my this could go on for ages sorry for rambling. But oh so much that could have been explored by the show!~*~ sigh
