Really? Yerk, I don’t. ;) I love writing about them and looking at them and watching them… I love how strongly they feel about who they are, how important family is, how they love their world…

But I wouldn’t love being watched all the time For My Own Good, and I wouldn’t love being eaten alive by the justice system as An Example, and I wouldn’t love having my future decided for me at the age of six by a system that needed a slot filled…

Post-Dominion-war, they may loosen up a little. But they’re still extremely boundary-aware reptile-things at heart. And they _like_ it that way. And I just don’t know how well I’d fit in.

Oh god cardassian children. Can’t deal with cardassian children.

I like thinking about them, fascinating little sort-of-reptiles that they are. I like thinking about little tiny Cardassians in the family bed, and older Cardassians attending school. Mustn’t neglect the education of the little ones, though, so I envision these sort of parent-organized learning parties where one sings songs about the Union and memorizes the alphabet…

And then school. Is it like Dukat says? Education is power, joy is vulnerability? But then again, he’s kind of an asshole, we can’t always trust him. I think that there must be some room for joy. Take the kids on field trips. Organize a sports day: relay racing, combat to first blood. Kid stuff. (No teams. That’s just weird.) Teach them to build worlds in their heads, that learning gives them control so that they can defend the boundaries that are already so incredibly important. Teach them to trust the State; it’s always watching, and it has their best interests at heart. (And if you teach them anything else, for mercy’s sake, do it away from prying eyes…!) Teach them that family is everything, that Cardassians must protect Cardassians, that anything that gets in the way of this goal must be rolled over ruthlessly–

And then, perhaps, teach them that some non-Cardassians are just like Cardassians, with their own learnings, their own goals. Teach them that perhaps there’s power in alliance. But teach them while they’re young, because soon they will be just another cog in the machine that is Cardassia, with no room to flex or change…

I like Cardassians. You may have noticed. And young Cardassians are very interesting people.

I’ve already established this in a comment on a post before, but I have more DS9 followers now, plus I feel like this deserves its own post.

Trill sexuality is kind of a hot point of discussion among fans of DS9. With Jadzia being the only clearly queer major character in a Star Trek series, the question among the fans is how her species affects her sexuality. Here is my take, which should answer a few issues on the show.

From what we know of basically every Trill we meet, sex is extremely important in Trill life, particularly for joined Trill. I mean, Curzon actually got sexed to death, and he went out with a damn grin. From this we can infer that a Symbiont carries extremely positive memories of its past hosts’ sex lives.

Now, how would a monosexual Trill who is newly joined deal with all of the Symbiont’s great memories of sex with both male and female body types? It’d probably be overwhelming and cause quite a few conflicting emotions, unless the joining made the joined Trill pansexual.

Now, I’m not just talking pansexual as we usually define it, but Captain Jack Harkness hot-damn-I-think-Morn-is-cute pansexual. That’s gonna be a big change for any Trill, which means part of the training for Trill to be joined is helping them understand the profound level of sexual energy they’ll have afterwards. Which brings me to the last part of this headcanon.

The reason mirror!Ezri is a lesbian isn’t because she’s from the mirrorverse, it’s because she’s unjoined. Prime!Ezri was also a lesbian before her joining. Her sudden pansexuality is part of what made her joining so terrifying and overwhelming for her, and thinking so much about all of the libido for men she’d never had before was what made her fall so hard for the men on the station.
