DS9 was amazing. I loved almost every episode. The characters have so much depth and while you don’t always love all of them, they grow on you.
And I admit it. I cried at the end when they were all split up.
Because it took them so long to get where they were! From Kira and Sisko not liking each other to Kira staying on board when the Dominion were attacking and showing her loyalty to the Federation because they’d become her friends and not just a necessary evil to Julian going from an arrogant, shallow smartass to an intelligent and sensible, reasonable, and deep individual with experience and his own inner strength.
And Quark and Odo actually being friends? Odo is constantly thwarting Quark’s money-grubbing schemes, but they do genuinely care about each other (in a kind of hostile way, I suppose). They go through a lot together and when push comes to shove, they might heckle each other, but they are willing to work together (sometimes… when it’s serious).
Actually, Quark had more depth than I thought he ever would. I always assumed he was comic relief, but I was wrong. He’s amusing and he’s a believable as a person.
Kira and Odo…. I shipped the fuck out of that. Poor Odo. His pining was… depressing.
And the political backdrop! I loved it! So fascinating! So many rich and culturally intense ideas! I loved DS9.
Come at me, Star Trek fans. I know you guys didn’t like it.
I loved it. Hell, I got my own name from that series.
It’s just… it’s intense. It’s a sci-fi, but primarily, it’s philosophical and dramatic at its heart and you really grow to love the characters.
I watched it when I was a kid and all I wanted out of life at the time (besides going to Hogwarts that is), was to live on the promenade of Deep Space Nine.
My best childhood memories revolve around DS9. That’s how much I loved it. I can still watch it now and love it, NO NOSTALGIA FILTER.
It’s just that awesome.
At some times, it can be scary. Heart-breaking. Devastating. Sob-your-eyes-out. But that’s the best part of a story. Becoming emotionally involved.
DS9 is the most underrated Star Trek series.
And that… makes me sad.
