hahAHAHA THAT’S A DIFFERENT QUESTION ENTIRELY

WELL

my favorite is ds9, but ds9 is the special odd black sheep trek in that its…moral center? i guess? doesn’t really resemble the rest of the trek utopia. it’s kind of a conscious deconstruction, in fact (this can go either really well or kind of annoying-ly) and focuses on oppression narratives and imperialism a lot more. the characters are ADORABLE, and the morality is REALLY GRAY, and basically the entire world ships Bambi-Eyed Oversexed Disney Doctor/Enigmatic Pansexual Lizard Spy Alien, but i would put in a good word for Wrinkle-Nosed Imagination-Less Former Resistance Fighter And Current Command Goddess/Socially Inept, Justice-Fixated Ball of Goo

BUT I ALSO REALLY LIKE NEXT GEN, for like ALL OF THE OPPOSITE REASONS really the only element i LOVE that the two share is that the characters are adorable and the show knows they are adorable, it doesn’t try too hard to convince you they’re badasses, usually. But next gen is very utopia, and everyone always is safe with each other at the end of the day, and everyone at least tries to accommodate everybody else’s problems and emotions and it just feels really homey. it is like. the halfway point between the huge cheesiness of the original series and the rest of the 90s trek. shipping highlights include Stuffy Bald Fake French Guy/Cute and Calming Motherly Doctor Figure, WILLIAM “INEXPLICABLE” RIKER/Weaponized Psychiatrist, Android/Mechanic, and Stuffy Bald Fake French Guy/Sassy But Inept Omnipotent Self-Appointed Judge of Humanity

TOS IS VERY GOOD IN ITS OWN…SPECIAL WAY, you just have to be in the mood for like. alternating terrible cheesiness and really blunt metaphors for the cold war. everybody saves the day. like. all the time. it is ridiculous. everybody ships spock/kirk except for me because i ship spock/bones because im drawn to id/superego shipping like a moth tO A LIGHT. whatever. just. those three have a good balance going emotionally speaking and that is a real highlight of the show for me
