Monkey Slug [Hag moth larvae] (Phobetron pithecium)
The monkey slug is a name for the caterpillar of the Hag moth which is found in North America. They get their unique name due the larvae’s six curly projections which camouflage it in the leaf litter. The Caterpillar will eat almost anything and has been recorded eating deciduous trees from apples to willows. When the caterpillar reaches adulthood the day flying female moth mimics a bee with pollen sacs (males mimic wasps).
