Okay so I spend a lot of time making fun of Bones for his (lack of) bedside manner, but credit where it’s due: the man knows what people need.
After Spock loses his vision, Kirk’s (understandable) instinct is to help him with everything. The episode never acknowledges it verbally, but Bones keeps holding Kirk back, because he knows Spock well enough to know that being led around and coddled would only upset him more.
Way to go, Bones. Keep pretending to be mean; your secret’s safe with us.
