It is insanely unfair that Paramount Pictures allowed so many women to fall in love (or lust over) each other on DS9, but at the same time they would not allow a same-sex relationship to happen between the Station’s Doctor and Cardassian tailor.
They even supposedly forbid Andy Robinson and Alexander Siddig from giving interviewers, convention attendees, etc even the slightest hint that their characters were in a non-platonic relationship.

I am 100% for LGBT rights but I believe the double standard that is constantly displayed - when it comes to what is shown between male and female relationships - has a lot to do with the ‘target audience’. (Besides the unfortunate fact that we are still living in the middle ages when it comes to LGBT rights.) Star Trek’s dominant audience is supposedly male, and Gods forbid that a guy should feel uncomfortable watching two gay guys who are -gasp- in love. No, no, no! That won’t do. It’s OK to ogle girls making out though. :p
