How did you begin to write for tie-ins?
I was ‘discovered’! Back in the late 90s, when I was writing fan fiction based on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (DS9) and posting it online. Out of the blue, I got an email from the editor of the Trek tie-in range at the time, saying that I’d been recommended to him as a good writer and asking whether I’d be interested in pitching a story for a forthcoming DS9 anthology.
I practically fell off my chair hastening to respond that I’d love to. That pitch eventually became my second DS9 novel, Hollow Men.

Apparently it’s an envisioning of what might’ve happened had Garak and Tain succeeded in destroying the Founder homeworld and oh my actual God it’s mostly set on Cardassia and I love her, do you understand? Her Cardassia breathes for me. It’s not the one I see in my head, but it’s still true, and what am I supposed to do with this???
I don’t have time to read a book right now!

Elim Garak spends this whole book being Lord Auditor Miles Vorkosigan.

I am quite literally stuck in some kind of feedback loop. I sit here saying “oh my god oh my god” out loud. Then I stop. Then I think of Una McCormack and I start saying “oh my god oh my god” again.
