[Miles Edgeworth and Kay Faraday conversing on a third party's uncertainty in whether or not they are dating someone else involved in the case][AAI1-3]

this makes me think that Edgeworth just believes he and Phoenix are dating at some point, once Phoenix shows an "adequate amount" of interest(see: post).

Like, Edgeworth brings Phoenix to family gatherings and events and Phoenix just thinks that Edgeworth is opening up to him more and he reciprocates, bringing Edgeworth to family gatherings and events(see: post).

They go to some posh restaurant and Phoenix cries at the bill. They go to Eldoon's and Edgeworth cries at the salt. When Edgeworth flies out of the country and takes Phoenix with him, he stops booking two hotel rooms and just books one (separate bedrooms; edgey needs his space).

This whole time, Edgeworth thinks he's being an obvious romantic, and Phoenix is just like "Edgeworth really is becoming more comfortable with the idea of friendship" while being head-over-heels for him.

Then one day Edgeworth does a lovestruck speech and pulls out a ring, going all "we've been dating for some time, and I'd like to marry you" and Phoenix is all "we've been dating?!".

Fast forward, no one at the WAA or the Prosecutor's Office can agree on when they started dating.
